TAEHYUN LEE
Taehyun Lee’s(b. 1940) ‘Space’ series implies space expansion to Illusion. It represents an inner landscape that expresses artist's ideals with a plan to build an orderly sanctuary in a shape of a pyramid and go-board. And sometimes he makes duality or ambivalence by adopting light flowing through the cracks of the sheath, which is the metaphor that illuminates the dark world or marbling, which is created by pure coincidence. He places the geometric shape on sheath and marbling overlapped to make an Illusion by contrasting reason, order, and logic in the space. The duality means an order consciousness inside him in one hand and the driving force of art creation on the other. Patterns and repetitions, which are the rules of modern abstract painting, express the situation of the era of infinite reproduction and breathe with the spirit of the era in a geometric form.
The artist was a key member of the early experimental artist group of Korea art history and contributed in building foundation of Korean modern art. He participated in Sao Paolo Biennale in Brazil and exhibited the most prestigious art venues such as National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Colletors are Samsung Museum of Art Lium, Seoul Museum of Art, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Park Soo-geun Museum of Art, Hwanki Museum of Art, etc. He has held more than 16 times of solo and 80 times of group exhibitions in Korea and overseas.
