《Chrome Memory》는 프랑스 출신 작가 Geoffrey Bouillot가 한국에서 선보이는 첫 개인전으로, 고전 회화에 대한 경의와 현대 도시 감각이 결합된 독창적인 작업 세계를 담고 있습니다.

모네, 마네, 고갱, 다빈치의 모나리자 등 미술사 속 아이코닉한 장면들은 작가의 손에서 빛, 그림자, 볼륨만 남은 ‘기억의 토템’으로 재탄생합니다. 작가는 회화를 통해 ‘재현’이 아니라 ‘증류된 기억’을 추출하고, 이를 구조적이고 금속성의 화면 위에 얹어냅니다.

Bouillot의 작업은 얼핏 보면 산업적이고 정제된 형태를 띠지만, 실은 모든 요소가 손으로 정밀하게 그려진 결과입니다. 회화의 물성과 인간적 감각, 질서와 여백 사이의 긴장 속에서, 관객은 정적이면서도 낯선 감정의 진동을 마주하게 됩니다.

이 전시는 우리가 익숙하게 기억하는 이미지들을 낯설게 다시 보게 하며, 회화라는 매체가 단순한 시각 재현을 넘어 감정과 기억의 구조를 어떻게 새롭게 제안할 수 있는지를 보여줍니다.

Chrome Memory marks the first solo exhibition in Korea by French artist Geoffrey Bouillot, presenting a unique visual language where classical painting meets contemporary urban sensibility.

Referencing iconic works by Monet, Manet, Gauguin, and Da Vinci, Bouillot doesn’t seek to replicate these paintings but rather distills their visual memory—reducing figures to light, volume, and shadow. These echoes of art history are reimagined as abstracted “totems of memory,” rendered with the clarity and restraint that define his practice.

Though the works may initially appear mechanical or industrial in their smoothness and precision, each element is painstakingly hand-painted. The tension between order and touch, control and intimacy, forms the emotional undercurrent of the exhibition.

In this body of work, Bouillot invites us to revisit the images we think we know. Rather than nostalgia, his paintings propose a visual system where memory is not recalled, but restructured—where painting becomes a site for meditating on structure, silence, and the traces that remain.
